UVA Darden Students Are Back! View Highlights From a Great Start to the New Year
What a week! What a class! The University of Virginia Darden School of Business welcomed hundreds of new students in the Class of 2021 to Grounds in recent days, including 336 new First Year full-time MBA students and a record 139 Executive MBA students. As usual, the classes are superlative-laden and generally incredible, and the full time class features 40 percent women — the highest percentage in Darden history.

In early August, we welcomed students with international backgrounds for the international student orientation. International citizens compose roughly one-third of the full time Class of 2021 and hail from 38 countries.
The Executive MBA Class of 2021 will be based at UVA Darden DC Metro, but recently completed its first leadership residency on Darden Grounds in Charlottesville. The residency concluded with a case competition focused on increasing attendance at UVA Football games. Cavman showed up to congratulate the winning team.
On the first day of opening week, Second Year students made sure the new full-time MBA First Years were welcomed to Grounds with maximum enthusiasm.
After hearing about the Darden experience ahead from Dean Scott Beardsley and Senior Associate Dean of the Full-Time MBA Program Tom Steenburgh, Darden Student Association leaders led the new class in a key UVA cheer. Go Hoos go!
Learning team introductions included the ever-popular Lego challenge.
UVA President Jim Ryan stopped by bright and early to lead anyone interested in a three-mile run around Grounds.
And activities rolled on! Students met more members of Darden leadership at the Celebration in the Dome, and the Darden Club Fair introduced new students to the dozens of extracurricular activities around Grounds. On Saturday, a welcome back barbecue on Flagler Court will offer one more opportunity for new students to meet their new community before classes begin on Monday.
