The University of Virginia Darden School of Business celebrated many of its top Second Year students in its full-time MBA program on 2 September during its annual fall student awards ceremony.

The awards, which recognize students in a variety of academic and community-oriented areas, were held virtually with hundreds of Darden community members tuning in from near and far to wish the students well.

The award ceremony’s centerpiece is the Samuel Forrest Hyde Memorial Fellowship, considered Darden’s highest student honor.

The fellowship, which is given to a student who has made significant contributions to the welfare of the Darden School and shows great career promise, was presented to Maggie Edmunds.

Presenting the award, Darden Professor Tom Steenburgh, senior associate dean for the full-time MBA program, read some of the comments received in support of Edmunds’ nomination, with colleagues describing the Second Year student as someone who “works tirelessly and seeks out opportunities to build a collaborative culture,” “exemplifies the kind of leader Darden hopes to produce” and is “a ray of sunshine.”

“There is no other classmate that is as deserving as she is of this recognition,” said one peer.

Professor Kimberly Whitler presented the G. Robert Strauss Marketing Award to Emily Stover. The award recognizes a student who shows innovative thinking, the ability to develop solutions to real-world problems, and demonstrates compassion for other students.

The C. Steward Sheppard Distinguished Service Award, which is presented to students who display exceptional service to the School and the community of a nonacademic nature, was presented to Alex Goot, Ann Joseph and Anthony “Rek” LeCounte

The William Michael Shermet Award, which honors academic excellence and a “positive competitive spirit” in the First Year, was presented to 15 students. The award winners are:
