Three Rising Second Year Students Awarded Genovese Fellowships

Although University of Virginia Darden School of Business students are currently completing the semester from locations around the globe as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, the community came together virtually on 30 April for an annual event awarding fellowships that cover the cost of the second year at Darden.

Speaking from his home in Florida, alumnus Frank Genovese (MBA ’74) announced the recipients of the Frank E. Genovese Second Year Fellowships, an award given to rising Second Year students interested in pursuing a career as a general manager or owner-operator of a business. Students in the Top 30 percent of the First Year class after their first semester are eligible to apply for the fellowship.

The recipients of the 2020 fellowships are First Year students Michael Bojanski, Matthew Filosa and Devin Lert, all of whom expressed their thanks to Genovese and the Darden community during the virtual event.

Through an original gift of $2 million, the Genovese scholarship endowment has funded 74 full-tuition fellowships for Second Year students and 12 scholarships for First Years over the course of 29 years.

Recently, three former Genovese Fellows took Genovese up on his urging to give back to Darden, launching their own scholarship efforts for Darden students.
