Courage and Values in the Workplace: Darden Professors’ Thought Leadership Featured at Thinkers50

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business had a strong faculty presence at the recent Thinkers50 2019, a conference and awards event in London celebrating the best in management thinking.

Darden Professor and Associate Dean of Executive Degree Programs and Leadership Initiatives Jim Detert gave a presentation on workplace courage, which he defines as a workplace act done for a worthy cause despite significant risks.

Detert’s research suggests courage is a skill or competence that can be practiced and refined, and says the opportunities to practice workplace courage present often in everyday life.

Darden Professor Mary Gentile was nominated for the T50 Ideas Into Practice Award, which honors the individual whose ideas have successfully led to organizational change, for her work as creator of Giving Voice to Values, a curriculum that helps individuals act on their values in range of environments.
