Journeying Through Japan With UVA Darden
By Jay Hodgkins
The University of Virginia Darden School of Business launched a new Darden Worldwide Course in Japan this year, “Mega Projects in Japan,” and the offering turned into a mega-hit as 48 students joined the course led by Professors Bob Conroy and Yael Grushka-Cockayne.
Darden’s Center for Global Initiatives (CGI) provided a recap of the inaugural global course, which made multiple stops at businesses and with Darden alumni throughout Kyoto and Tokyo while exploring project management and innovation in Japan.
Double Hoo Helen Hwang serves as the Principal Commercial Consul of the U.S. Consulate General in Osaka-Kobe. During the welcome dinner, she briefed the students with an overview of the business and commercial environment in Kansai (the region that contains the trifecta of Kyoto, Kobe, and Osaka), provided background on trade between the U.S. and Japan, and gave pointers on how to do business in Japan.
