The University of Virginia Darden School of Business has launched a new specialization based on a suite of courses on Design Thinking on Coursera, taught by Darden Professor Jeanne Liedtka.

The new Specialization builds on Professor Liedtka’s work in the space and her previous Coursera classes.

"I believe it to be the most comprehensive training in design thinking available today – short of attending design school!"
Darden Professor Jeanne Liedtka

Learners in the course will master design thinking skills in a hands-on format through a detailed 14-step process that tackles a project of their choosing, practicing all the most important tools from the field of human-centered design to generate and test ideas and connect with customers on a human level. Next, learners will deepen their practice with an in-depth journey through six key phases of the design thinking process, from immersion to learning-in-action, and explore the shifts in mindsets and skillsets that accompany each phase.

Courses in the Design Thinking Specialization include:

  1. Design Thinking: Insights to Inspiration
  2. Design Thinking: Ideas to Action
  3. Design Thinking: Discovery Tools
  4. Experiencing Design: Deepening Your Design Thinking Practice

“I am thrilled to be launching Darden’s Design Thinking specialization on Coursera,” said Liedtka. “In a world of change and uncertainty, the skills it provides are essential. This specialization reflects the best of our thinking, gathered over a decade of work, conducting research and teaching many thousands of students, both face-to-face and online. I believe it to be the most comprehensive training in design thinking available today — short of attending design school!”
