Purpose Travels Well
By Jay Hodgkins
University of Virginia Darden School of Business students traveled on 14 Darden Worldwide Courses, learning across five continents, this spring.
Darden has expanded and diversified its global course offerings in recent years, and two of the spring courses were offered for the first time — “Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Technological Unemployment” led by Professor Tim Laseter in Germany and the “NOLS Experiential Leadership Elective” in Patagonia, led by the NOLS wilderness education school with Professor Bobby Parmar.
The popularity of Darden’s global courses is set to increase in the future. A recent $15 million gift from the Batten Foundation coupled with a $15 million match from the UVA Bicentennial Scholars Fund will result in the launch of the Batten Foundation Darden Worldwide Scholarship program. The resulting endowment will ultimately provide every student in Darden’s full-time MBA program a scholarship to attend a Darden Worldwide Course at no incremental cost.
