UVA Darden School Gains New Members On Its Leadership Boards

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business today announced the election of several new leadership board members, who will serve the school as advisers in various capacities. The five leadership boards of the Darden School of Business comprise more than 140 distinguished leaders who collectively serve as an innovative force in the advancement of the Darden School throughout the world.

Ray Butler of Danaher began serving a two-year term on Darden’s Corporate Advisory Board (CAB), effective in February 2013. Faculty member Paul Farris also joined the CAB in June 2013. Elie Maalouf (MBA `89), former president and CEO of HMSHost Corporation, was appointed to the Global Advisory Council in April 2013. Finally, three new members have joined the Dean’s Diversity Advisory Council: Paige Davis Jr. (MBA `09) of MTB Investment Advisors, Jonathan Englert (MBA `10) of Deloitte Consulting LLP, and Marguerite Furlong Longo (MBA `08) of Johnson & Johnson Consumer Products.

Ray Butler is the vice president and general manager for Danaher’s Kollmorgen Industrial Automation business unit in the Americas. Prior to this position, he was the vice president of global operations for Kollmorgen. He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering and holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

Paul Farris 
is the Landmark Communications Professor of Business Administration at Darden. Prior to this appointment, he taught at the Harvard Business School, before which he worked in marketing management for Unilever, Germany, and in account management for the Lintas advertising agency. Farris’ general research focus is in the area of marketing productivity and measurement. He has served as an academic trustee of the Marketing Science Institute and is a current or past member of the editorial boards for several journals. Farris has consulted and taught Darden Executive Education programs for many international companies. He has served on the boards of retailers, manufacturers and software companies. Currently, he is on the board of directors of Sto Corp., a building materials company.

Elie Maalouf (MBA `89) is the former president and CEO of HMSHost Corporation, a near $3 billion global food, beverage and retail company with 34,000 employees operating across 14 countries. He joined the company in 1997, and he served as CEO from 2005 until the end of 2011 and on its board of directors until 2012. Earlier in his career, from 1989 to 1997, Maalouf was with Weyerhaeuser Real Estate Company, a $2 billion real estate subsidiary of Weyerhaeuser Company. Maalouf is currently a senior advisor with McKinsey & Co. and serves on the board of directors of Driven Brands, Inc. Maalouf resides in McLean, Virginia, with his wife and their three sons.

Paige Davis Jr. (MBA `09) is a vice president and mergers and acquisitions analyst at M&T Bank in the corporate finance department. He is responsible for analyzing bank and non-bank mergers, acquisitions and dispositions. Davis joined M&T Bank’s investment division in 2009 as a fundamental equity research analyst covering the financial sector for the MTB small cap growth team. Prior to joining MTB Investment Advisors, he spent two years at the State of Maryland Retirement and Pension System as a senior research analyst. Prior to that, he worked for a boutique investment management firm in Baltimore, Maryland, focused on small-cap growth investing. Paige’s career in the investment industry began at Morgan Stanley in 2001. He holds both an MBA from Darden and a B.S. in commerce from UVA’s McIntire School of Commerce. In addition to his primary occupation at M&T Bank, Paige serves on the board of KIPP Baltimore and routinely volunteers for non-profit organizations that support the Baltimore region and education reform. He is married and has one son.

Jonathan Englert (MBA `10) is a manager in the Strategy and Operations practice at Deloitte Consulting LLP, where he focuses on providing consulting services to the finance functions of large organizations. Prior to joining Deloitte, Englert worked in a variety of finance-related roles at Wachovia Securities (now Wells Fargo Advisors) and Merrill Lynch. He holds an MBA from Darden and a B.S. in finance and international business from The Pennsylvania State University. Jonathan resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with his wife and two sons.

Marguerite (Furlong) Longo (MBA `08) is the senior brand manager of Zyrtec at Johnson & Johnson (J&J). In her 5 years at J&J, Marguerite previously managed the Aveeno baby care, hair care and sun care businesses and also worked on the Johnson’s Baby Brand. She received her undergraduate degree from the College of William & Mary in 2003 and her MBA from Darden in 2008. Marguerite, her husband, Chris, and their 11-month-old son, Colton, live in Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
