UVA Darden Alumna Follows Family Footsteps Into International Career
Nancy Lyons Callahan (MBA ’84) shares how she followed her fathers footsteps into a global career that has led her into a strategy leadership role with German multinational SAP.
Nancy Lyons Callahan (MBA ’84) chose the University of Virginia Darden School of Business because of its emphasis on ethical leadership and business practices, but the seed for a global career was planted long before, as a child watching her father travel for business.
SAP Digital Business Services’ global vice president for strategy and growth was recently profiled on The Network section of the Darden website, and explained how her early influences and decisions led her into a career that has taken her around the world and across industries.
She also provided advice for future business leaders.
Callahan’s advice for future leaders is to explore opportunities to work internationally. She feels that all businesses are global and that working abroad can only make you a more well-rounded employee. Callahan also added that you should “invest in your own resilience. Over a career, you will have ups and downs. Prepare for both. Give back, pay it forward, lead by example and be intentional.”
