UVA Darden Professors Explore New Technologies, Asking the Question: “Good, Bad or No Disruption?”

The third season of the Good Disruption podcast is now out, with University of Virginia Darden School of Business professors exploring the disruptive potential of NFTs, renewable energy, generative artificial intelligence and the virtual workplace.

The podcast, now in its second year, features Darden Professors and Senior Associate Deans Yael Grushka-Cockayne and Mike Lenox considering potentially disruptive innovation and weighing in whether the new technologies and practices are, in fact, disruptive and what the social benefits and detriments may be.

The five episodes released so far in 2023 include:

  • “Women in Sustainability,” featuring a conversation with Chrissa Pagitsas (MBA ’09), Laure Katz (GEMBA ’16) and Chanceé Lundy Russell on moving the needle on climate change and the role disruptive technology and ideas may play. This episode was recorded at the Darden 2022 Women in Leadership Summit.

  • “Generative AI,” featuring a conversation with author and technology philosopher Tom Chatfield on the exciting and alarming rise of content created by increasingly ubiquitous AI programs.

  • “NFTs,” featuring a conversation with Darden Professor Dennie Kim, whose research considers the emergence and evolution of new industries. The Darden professors discuss the strange world of NFTs, from basketball GIFs to Bored Ape Yacht Club and much more.

  • “Renewable Energy,” featuring a conversation with Sandy Reisky, founder of Apex Clean Energy. The Darden professors and Reisky discuss the tools needed to decarbonizing the energy grid and reach critical mass with renewable energy.

  • “The Virtual Workplace,” featuring a conversation with Darden Professor Roshni Raveendhran. The professors discuss the unsettled state of remote work, the future of work and how organizations can effectively integrate novel technologies into the workplace.
