Poets & Quants Spotlights Class of 2022, UVA Darden Differentiators

By Jay Hodgkins

On Thanksgiving week, Poets & Quants gave the University of Virginia Darden School of Business community something to be grateful for, spotlighting the School and its full-time MBA Class of 2022.

Every business school is known for something. Call it branding. Some schools are associated with excellence in fields like marketing or finance. Others differentiate themselves through close-knit cultures and alumni engagement. Of course, there are programs that excel in critical areas like leadership development and career services.

By that measure, you could say the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business suffers from an identity problem. That’s because it is impossible to size up the Darden MBA in one dimension. Rather, the program is often boiled down to three elements:

Academic Rigor

Teaching Excellence

Case Method Mastery

The feature included stats highlighting the class, which arrived at Darden amid incredible competition after a 38 percent increase in applications over the previous year, and an interview with Executive Director of Admissions Dawna Clarke.

“Darden is known for its teaching,” Clarke said in her interview with the publication. “Darden students come here in part because they want to learn alongside the best professors in graduate business education — and the culture of mutual respect and positive intent that develops in the classroom as students and faculty members work together through the case method.”

Poets & Quants also profiled 11 of the amazing students in the class.
