UVA Darden Announces Admissions Events With Dean Scott Beardsley Throughout Asia

By Dave Hendrick

University of Virginia Darden School of Business Dean Scott Beardsley will travel throughout Asia in June, meeting with prospective students, alumni, partner companies and other key stakeholders in the region during the two-week trip.

Beginning 10 June in Seoul and ending 21 June in Jakarta, the trip will include stops in Shanghai, Beijing and Tokyo, allowing multiple opportunities for prospective students interested in the Darden MBA to learn more about the School, its programs and alumni.

Each year, students with international backgrounds make up roughly a third of the Darden class, playing a vital role in the classroom and the life of the School.

Specific locations and admissions events include:

Seoul, 10 June

Shanghai, 12 June

Beijing, 15 June

Tokyo, 16 June

Jakarta, 20 June

In addition to remarks from Beardsley, the free events include an information session and the opportunity to connect with local alumni to discuss the global experience at Darden and career opportunities available to new graduates. All event attendees will receive fee waivers for the application to the full-time MBA program.

New Management Science Specialization, Scholarship Opportunities

The dean will also share news of recent innovations to the Darden MBA program, including the launch of a specialization in management science, which builds on the required MBA core curriculum.

The new concentration is STEM designated, which has added relevance for international students who want authorization to work in the U.S., as it may allow them to qualify for a STEM OPT extension of an additional 24 months to obtain an employer sponsored visa.

Additionally, Darden has dramatically increased alumni fundraising for scholarships in recent years, and the School offers more than 150 merit-based scholarships. Merit scholarships are awarded in recognition of a candidate’s accomplishments and leadership potential. Darden also offers multiple scholarships designated for top students with international backgrounds, including some covering the full cost of attendance.

In addition to meeting with students and alumni, Beardsley will connect with a number of corporate partners and deliver a keynote address at the Germany-U.S.-China Intelligence Vision Forum as part of the Global New Economy Conference 2019.

The Economist has named the Darden School the world’s best education experience for eight years in a row, and the School’s full-time MBA program rose in every major ranking in which the School participates in the last year, including moving in to the Top 10 globally in rankings from The Economist and Bloomberg Businessweek.
