Food Expert and Brand Builder Discusses the Future of How We Eat
By Dave Hendrick
Sally Robling (MBA ’82) has had a distinguished track record in the food business, with senior level positions at Kraft, Campbell’s and Pinnacle Foods Corp. on her resume. In 2014, Robling joined the startup world, serving as a board member and eventually non-executive chairman of Plated, the subscription meals service acquired by Albertson’s in September 2017.
In an interview with University of Virginia Darden School of Business student Lauren Hansen (Class of 2018), Robling discussed the continued strength of retail, the shift toward direct-to-consumer marketing and the opportunity for disruption in the food business.
“The tools that I learned in my first job working on Shake ‘n Bake, those were still relevant at Plated, but it’s interpreted through a whole new set of skills and capabilities,” said Robling. “It’s a different world, but it’s still food.”
