Coach CFO Reveals the Five Maxims That Have Shaped Her Life and Career, at UVA Darden Event

13 November 2014

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business continued its fall Leadership Speaker Series Monday with a presentation from Jane Nielsen, chief financial officer of Coach. The Darden MBA student-led Retail & Luxury Goods Club co-sponsored the event.

Nielsen shared the five principles that have guided her to her current leadership role

  1. Take chances and have a point of view.
  2. Look at the diversity of your network, so you can change as fast as the world.
  3. Adapt your lifestyle, but do not change who you are.
  4. Leave a legacy.
  5. Pursue life and work with a passion.

Coach is an international leader in premium bags and accessories and has in recent years transformed from an international accessories business to a global lifestyle brand.

Nielsen became an executive officer of Coach and assumed the position of CFO in September 2011. She joined Coach from PepsiCo Inc. where she served as senior vice president and CFO of PepsiCo Beverages Americas and the Global Nutrition Group with combined revenues of $17 billion. Nielsen earned her B.A. in economics from Smith College and MBA from Harvard University.

Darden alumnus Rick Paschal (MBA ’89), senior vice president and CFO, supply chain, information systems and global procurement at Coach and vice chair of the Darden Corporate Advisory Board, was essential in bringing Nielsen to Darden.
