2014 University of Virginia Investing Conference to Examine Investing in the Innovation Economy

As disruptive innovation shakes up industries at an accelerating pace, how can investors identify true innovation and understand its investment implications to realize returns?

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business Richard A. Mayo Center for Asset Management will host the seventh annual University of Virginia Investing Conference (UVIC) 13-14 November 2014.

Asset management experts and global thought leaders, convened by Darden’s top-ranked faculty, will gather to analyze the global investing landscape, which is influenced more than ever by disruptive innovation — making it difficult to predict the drivers of future growth. UVIC will explain what’s ahead in digital health care, cybersecurity, technology and energy and analyze the current and future economic outlook. The speakers and panelists will provide ideas for investing successfully in the innovation economy and will address asset selection, portfolio allocation and risk management.

“We’ll delve into what products could revolutionize industry and why,” said Darden Dean Bob Bruner. “The ‘why’ is an often overlooked, but most important, factor, as it provides a sound rationale for investing in these areas.”

UVIC will kick off Thursday, 13 November with the final rounds of the third annual Darden @ Virginia Investing Challenge, hosted by the Darden Capital Management club. The Challenge will bring together 15 teams of students from top MBA programs to compete in a stock pitch competition.

Darden Capital Management is a student-run organization the purpose of which is to prepare its membership for careers in investment management and research as well as other functions within the financial markets. The club’s assets under management have grown to over $6,500,000 — held in five funds — making it one of the largest programs of its kind.
