UVA Darden School of Business Announces Three Executive Job Openings

17 May 2013

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business today announced an executive search for three new leadership positions: senior associate dean and chief operating officer, senior associate dean for external relations and executive director for the Darden School Foundation and strategic relations.

The job searches will be conducted by a Darden School search committee. The University of Virginia’s Executive Search Group will assist on the chief operating officer position. All three positions are posted on Jobs@UVA.

“The Darden School is operating at a high level, here in Charlottesville and around the globe through its MBA and Executive Education programs,” said Darden’s Dean Bob Bruner. “To build on the momentum, we are searching for executive leadership talent to help shape the School’s future.”

In January, Darden convened a task force called the “One Darden” Advisory Group to review the School’s organizational design and chart the path forward. The group consisted of Darden School faculty and staff members, the dean, members and chairs and past chairs of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees and Leonard Sandridge, retired chief operating officer of UVA. The group recommended a set of actions, including three new executive leadership positions.

The open positions include:

  • Senior Associate Dean and Chief Operating Officer — The COO will be responsible for the financial affairs of all divisions of the Darden School and the Darden School Foundation, and will coordinate the financial function of the auxiliary enterprises (Darden Executive Education, the Inn at Darden, and Darden Business Publishing), as well as key operational areas such as human resources, legal, hospitality and facilities. This position will report to the dean.
  • Senior Associate Dean for External Relations — The senior associate dean for external relations will assume broad-based responsibilities for alumni services, fundraising, branding, marketing and communications. This position will report to the dean.
  • Executive Director for the Darden School Foundation and Strategic Relations — The executive director will be the staff leader of the Darden School Foundation, assume the responsibilities for organizing engagement of the Foundation Board of Trustees as well as the other volunteer leadership board and advisory groups and serve as the relationship manager for Darden’s strategic stakeholders (including board members, corporate leaders, government officials, University leaders and others). This position will report to the chair of the Darden School Foundation Board of Trustees with dotted-line reporting to the dean.
