More Than a Million and Climbing Darden’s Youtube Channel Hits a Major Milestone

30 August 2012

This month, the Darden MBA YouTube channel reached one million views and new subscribers continue to sign up regularly to experience Darden through its moving images.

“I viewed YouTube as the public access channel of the Internet,” said Gary Peters, post-production manager in Darden Media, during an interview on the Darden BusinessCast. “Google purchased YouTube in late 2006. We examined what they were doing and liked seeing that they were adding channel spaces, especially in the educational market, and were allowing unlimited-length videos. In August of 2007, we were able to start the channel and it’s been going like gangbusters ever since.

Videos have become an important way for B-schools to share news, teach lessons and demonstrate how to put ideas into action. Currently host to 754 videos, Darden’s MBA YouTube channel features students, faculty, alumni and prominent visitors. Video topics include entrepreneurship, leadership and ethics.

Darden’s Top 10 most watched videos include:

1. So You Want to Start a Business
2. Debt Sustainability: Which Countries Are Beyond the Point of Return and Why?

The most popular video, So You Want to Start a Business, has received more than 120,000 views. It features a talk given by Darden Professor Ed Hess, who co-authored a book by the same name. Posted in January of 2009, So You Want to Start a Business still receives viewer attention and commentary, spurred on recently by the announcement of Darden’s first free online Coursera course featuring Professor Hess, “Smart Growth for Private Business.”

Produced by members of the Darden Media team, often in conjunction with the Office of Communication and Marketing, Darden’s videos show the world how the School’s top-rated faculty and top-notch students interact to create the world’s best B-school experience.
